How much does it cost?
Once you are a club member, the club pays all preliminary entries to the organiser to register our teams. The competitors are then only required to pay the entry fee on the day which for Show Jumping and Dressage is usually around £15 -£20 per person per class. Hunter Trials and One Day Events vary from about £35 - £55. The Liaison Trophy, which is run only for Area 6 Clubs, allows you to enter two disciplines at just £10 per class.
How does it all work? What will I have to do?
Show jumping – There are four riders in a team. Each competitor will jump two rounds, with the best three scores in each round to count for the team total. The jumps will be raised for the second round and the course may be changed. There are three different competition heights:
Hickstead Show Jumping - A highlight for many Riding Club Members, the Riding Club team show jumping event is held on the Sunday at the Hickstead International Horse Show. In this event, there are teams of 3, all scores to count. One member to jump at each of the following heights - 85cm, 95cm 105cm.
Eventer's challenge – each competitor will be required to jump between 8 to 10 show jumps and then will head straight out on to the cross country course to complete a further 10 to 15 jumps. A team consists of four riders with the best three scores to count.
Blenheim Eventers Challenge - Another opportunity to compete at a prestigious event, Riding Clubs are invited to send teams forward to compete in the 105cm eventers challenge. For more information go to Blenheim site.
Dressage – There are a number of Dressage competitions organised by BRC. For team events, the Senior Open Dressage, the Senior Novice Dressage and Junior Dressage, the team is made up of 4 riders, with the best three scores to count. Each rider in a Senior Open Team rides a different test, there are three Novice tests and one elementary. For the Junior and Senior Novice dressage, two riders ride the same Prelim Test and the other two ride the same Novice test. However, there is the opportunity to ride a test as an individual also and compete in pairs or individual as appropriate in pairs dressage, riding tests and dressage to music competitions.
Horse Trials – There are 5 types of competition – the Senior Open, Senior Intermediate and Senior Novice and Junior event are for teams of four riders with the best threes course to count, also open to individuals. The fifth – the Senior Special Open – is held for individuals only. Most of these are held as one day events, and run in the order of Dressage, Show jumping and cross country.
BE 80T BRC Championship - British Eventing is now running a BRC section to its BE80T competitions, Just notify the event organiser of your club when you enter. These events culminate in a further BRC championship in September. For more information visit the British Eventing site or the BHS site.
Can I enter individually?
For all competitions, team members are automatically entered as individuals also, so if the team does not get placed a team member can still be placed. With the exception of the Winter Show Jumping and the London and South East competitions, you can be entered to compete as an individual at all area qualifiers.
Flu and Vaccination Rules
To represent the club in these area competitions (which are all qualifiers for the national BRC competitions) your horse must have an up to date vaccination certificate, this includes the initial series of vaccinations. If you are unsure ask one of the committee to check.
