Past Events 2008

The Club held a well attended Annual General Meeting at the Lyne Village Hall on 15th October.

Chairman James Parker reported on a busy and successful year that included Club rides around Lingfield and Epsom racecourses, and two popular Open shows, one of which was held to raise funds for the Surrey Air Ambulance.

Fundraising Manager, Julie Jenkinson was presented with a cheque for £2000 by committee member Bob Deacon.

Two years ago one of our members was in a riding accident and the air ambulance was on the scene within minutes.  This life saving service is totally dependant on voluntary contributions and so we decided to hold a summer show to raise funds. The Surrey Air Ambulance costs  £1.5 million to fund annually and each callout equates to £2000.  The Committee would like to thank all of the riders who supported our Show; their generosity may well save a life.

A presentation or trophies followed on from the meeting.  Here are some photos of the winning members.

WINDSOR GREAT PARK ORIENTEERS

It was maybe the last glorious day of Summer and members of the riding club enjoyed it in style, with a two hour ride around Windsor Great Park on an orienteering expedition.

Teams followed a trail set by Claire Valvona and Vanessa Hunt, and collected letters en route and worked out an anagram of a seasonal find.

All of the teams answered the clues correctly and the competition was won by Joe Brown and James Parker who came within two minutes of the bogey time.

Afterwards the competitors enjoyed a picnic and a prizegiving.

Thanks to Vanessa and Claire for organising such a superb event.

Bank Holiday Show 2008

A highlight of the Club's year is the annual August Bank Holiday Show held at Langshot Equestrian Centre. This year the jumping classes were especially popular with the biggest class, the Novice jumping, attracting 45 entrants. Congratulations to Emma Kampa and Harry, the eventual winners.

The Open jumping was won by Kirsty Lee and Billy Go Lightly.

The Showing classes were well attended with Ridden Cobs drawing a sizeable entry. The 2008 Showing Champion of Champions was Adie Callaghan and her grey cob Batik, who was awarded a sash by the collective of judges who were unanimous in their decision.

Riding Club Teams at Hickstead

A Chobham & District team made up of Sharon Teale on Highland Warrior, Bev Smallridge on Catania and Tiffany Manning on Rhyfendigad Sinbad came second in the Riding Club Team Competition at Hickstead. This is a remarkable achievement and repeated our success from 2006 - hopefully next time our team will finally get their hands on first prize. Well done to all connected with the teams.

Dressage To Music - National & Area Qualifier 13th July 2008

It was like a fancy party at Langshot Equestrian Centre when the Club hosted the National and London and South East dressage to music qualifier for Area 11. The Pink Ladies, a Hell's Angel, Cinderella, Dolly Parton, Lord Nelson and Lady Hamilton and a Sultana were among the assembled guests who showed off their skills and entertained a large audience.
Thanks to judges Michelle Bone and Talin Vartevanian and to the team for organising a successful event. Good luck to those who qualified for the next stages!

Air Ambulance Show - 29th June 2008

On 29th June the Club held an open show at Dunstall Green as a fundraiser for the Surrey Air Ambulance. Dressage, jumping and showing classes proved popular with well over a hundred entrants. Congratulations to committee member Bob Deacon on organising such a successful and enjoyable show.

We look forward to our next open show, to be held at Langshot Equestrian Centre on Monday 25th August. The schedule can be downloaded from the events page.

The photos below were taken by a member of the committee, we also had a professional photographer at the show, for a selection of their work please go to our photo gallery - if you wish to visit their website follow this link www.visualise.uk.com

Seventh Heaven

What a week for our Team Manager Kelly Lewis! It started off with the announcement of her engagement to Ewan, and ended with her coming 7th in the BRC National Senior Novice Cross Country event held at Aston Le Walls in Northamptonshire.

Unfortunately the team was unplaced but what a fantastic achievement to have qualified for the National competition, and well done to Charmaine Senior, Kelly Lewis, Jackie and Sharon Teale for flying the Chobham flag so admirably.

Dressage to Music Training - 11th May 2008

Over thirty guests attended a special Dressage to Music training event hosted by the Club on 11th May. We were delighted to welcome Sara Green, who is Rules and Fixtures Director for British Dressage, to the session held at Hill Place, Knaphill. Sara kindly spent the afternoon explaining how to determine music of the right tempo and feel to suit different types of horses. Members from Chobham and other Surrey riding clubs found the session an inspiration and now look forward to working with their own horses in preparation for the Dressage to Music National and South-East Qualifiers for Area 11, to be hosted by Chobham and held at Langshot Equestrian Centre on Sunday 13th July.
