History

Chobham and District Riding Club started life at Langshot Equestrian Centre in 1986. Previously Langshot Riding Club had been the resident club but when the Centre changed ownership the club decided to move away.

The new owners wanted a riding club based on the premises and asked John and Ann Foss to start this up. John and Ann had been members of Langshot Riding Club and were also involved in the Area Liaison Committee so took up the challenge. John and Ann retired from the committee in 2002 but remain on the Area Liaison Committee and still take an active interest in club events. The club still maintains its links with Langshot Equestrian Centre as a venue for training and other events throughout the year and is made welcome by the current owner Hilary Stevenson.

The initial Committee was formed of 6 members - nearly all staff/livery owners at Langshot Equestrian Centre. Two of the early activities were Orienteering on Chobham Common and Dressage with Discussion with Helen Brown (now a list 2A Judge). These are still popular activities with members, but we also arrange training for members in Cross Country, Show Jumping and Flatwork. Our most popular events include our annual Open Show held every year on August Bank Holiday Monday at Langshot Equestrian Centre and the Air Ambulance Show held every June (since 2008) thanks to committee member Bob Deacon.

As with most clubs, membership numbers have fluctuated over the years - at one point they reached nearly 200; today we have around 80 members including juniors and non-riding members, you don't have to own a horse to be a member, we are always grateful for volunteers to help at our shows and events.
